Chiropractic care for teens and children is becoming more common. Adolescents, just like many adults, can suffer from lower back pain. In fact, the prevalence may be very similar to that of adult low back pain.
Teens and Children appear to have more pain, aches and soreness than once believed. A recent study of 400, 000 school-aged children questioned them about their experience with headaches, stomach aches and back pain during the course of the previous six months. The results showed that over half, 54%, were experiencing regular headaches. Almost 50% reported stomach pain and 37% experienced back pain. Helping children and adults become pain-free is a focus of Turner Chiropractic Care.
While this may be new news to some of our clients, it is also important to find the right treatment no matter what the age of our client is.
According to a recent study, this can have a significant impact on a young person’s quality of life, especially as they are at a very active stage of life. To date, there have been few studies on adolescents and low back pain, especially those involving therapies like exercise and spinal manipulation; however, the first randomized and controlled study that compares exercise therapy joined with spinal manipulation to just exercise therapy unaided is currently in progress.
This exciting study will examine effects such as disability, quality of life, satisfaction, activity level, low back strength, endurance, and motion in adolescents’ lives. The results of this study will prove to be not only exciting support for the chiropractic world, but the evidence will help with the treatment plans of adolescents suffering with lower back pain.
We look forward to hearing the results of the study as we continue to tailor our chiropractic care to you and your family’s specific needs.
